102nd APBA Gold Cup Unlimited Hydroplane Races on the Detroit River at Detroit Michigan - July 10, 2011

The Detroit Yacht Club and the Detroit River Regatta Association sponsored the 102rd running of the APBA Gold Cup run over the weekend of July 8th-10th 2011, on the Detroit River. This event has been a Detroit tradition for 95 years.

The APBA Gold Cup, officially named the APBA Challenge Cup, is among the most prestigious of motor sport trophies, in part because it is the oldest active trophy in all of motor sports. The trophy was first awarded in 1904.

The Unlimited Hydroplanes race at speeds near 200 miles per hour! The event covers a large area on the Detroit River, so there are many different viewing areas for a casual picnic or for an exciting view from the water's edge.
